COURSES
VHF Seminar
A VHF course is scheduled for Wednesdays, May 5 & 12 at 6:30pm at the new Sport for Life Centre. Course Conductor is George Bush. The fee is $80 + GST. Call the office to register.
First Aid Courses
A combo first aid course with full EFA (emergency first aid which includes CPR level C) and recerts together will take place on Thursday, May 13 from 6:00pm-9:30pm at the Red Cross building at 1111 Portage Ave. A second course is scheduled for Friday, July 2 at 9:30pm at the RLWYC. The fee for the full EFA is $70+GST and for the recerts $40+GST. Call the office to register.
NEW: Boat Rescue Courses
Instead of taking the mandatory bronze medallion certification course, coaches can now take their Boat Rescue in Manitoba (swimming no more J ). The first course will run on Saturday, June 12 at 12:00pm at the Gimli YC and the second course on Friday, July 2 at 2:00pm at the RLWYC. The fee is $80+GST.
PCOC (Pleasure Craft Operator Card)
If you operate a power-driven vessel you needed 'The Card' by September 15, 2009. You can still obtain your boating safety license before the boating season begins. Two evenings are scheduled for an exam challenge, Friday, May 7 or June 11 at 5:00pm at the new Sport for Life Centre. Fee for the lifelong license is $30. Call the MSA office to register.
CYA Bronze IV Certification
Do you still need your CYA Bronze IV certification for the coaches clinic? You can brush up your skills and take the test on Wednesday June 9 or Monday June 14 at 5:00pm at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre at Fort Whyte Alive. The fee is $30+GST.
Race Management Courses
Do you want to experience the thrill of racing on the water instead of being stuck on shore? Take the Assistant Race Officer Course on June 22 and June 24 from 7:00pm-9:00pm at the Sport for Life Centre or on Friday, July 9 from 5:00pm - 9:00pm at the RLWYC (tbc). The fee is $50 plus GST and includes the booklet 'Join the Race Committee'.
LEARN TO SAIL
Learn to Sail at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre

Respect in Sport
Coaches, parents, athletes and club members: if you haven't done already so, please log on to http://sportmanitoba.essentialtalk.com/ and take the online Respect in Sport course. This three hour online course is designed as a tool to assist everybody in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport.

Spring Training at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre
Our spring training at the WSC in Club 420s will start on May 31 every Monday and Wednesday from 5:00pm - 7:00pm and will run until June 30. During this training session you can also brush up your CYA certifications (White Sail I - Bronze Sail V). Cost is $100 or $10 drop in fee, payable to Sail Manitoba.
Team Members
Just a reminder to have your personal sailing gear ready to go. The lakes are still cold and you need to make sure to have a wet suit, neoprene booties, neoprene gloves, splash top and pants and a toque to wear. A cold sailor is not a happy sailor!

First 2.4m in Manitoba
Next week our coaches will be picking up a 2.4m in Ottawa for a new racing program for sailors with a disability. A disabled sailing event was added for the Canada Summer Games in 2013 and Sail Manitoba is seeking interested people. Let us know if you - or if you know somebody- would like to try out. Sail Manitoba/CYA Membership Fees
The invoices for this year's membership fees will be sent out to the Yacht Clubs this week. You must be paid up before the season starts to make sure your club is in good standings with the MSA and CYA and your athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers are covered by the Sport Manitoba Liability Insurance. The CYA membership gives your members the right to race. Yachtmaster Leadership Training
The Canadian Yachting Association proposes to adopt the RYA's Yachtmaster scheme to complement the CYAs cruising programme so that Canadian sailors can achieve internationally recognized standards at the Yachtmaster Offshore and Yachtmaster Ocean level.
