Game Show Contestant Opportunity for Athletes, Coaches and Officials

UPCOMING EVENTS

Keelboat Racing

Wednesday night Keelboat Racing at the Gimli Yacht Club started on June 4. If you have questions about your PHRF rating contact Charlie Burns at cburns@burnsgroup.ca .

PCOC (Pleasure Craft Operator Card)

If you operate a power-driven vessel you needed 'The Card' by September 15, 2009. You can challenge the exam on Friday, June 11 at 5:00pm in our office at the Sport for Life Centre. Fee is $30

CYA Bronze IV Certification

Do you still need your CYA Bronze IV certification for the coaches clinic? You can brush up your skills and take the test on Wednesday, June 9 or Monday, June 14 at 5:00pm at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre at Fort Whyte Alive. The fee is $30.

NEW: Coachboat Safety Course

Instead of taking the mandatory bronze medallion or boat rescue course, coaches can now take their Coachboat Safety Course (swimming no more J ). The first course will run on Saturday, June 12 at 12:00pm at the Gimli YC and the second course on Friday, July 2 at 2:00pm at the RLWYC. The fee is $80

First Aid Course

A combo first aid course with full EFA (emergency first aid which includes CPR level C) and recerts together will take place on Friday, July 2 at 9:30pm at the RLWYC. The fee for the full EFA is $70+GST and for the recerts $40+GST

New Racing Program for Sailors with a Disability

WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU! A sailing event for sailors with a disability was added for the Canada Summer Games in 2013 and the boat chosen is the ‘2.4m'. Sail Manitoba now has one of these boats available to train some athletes for the Games in 2013. You don't have to be a sailor to get started. You will learn the ropes right from the beginning and our coaches will teach you everything about boathandling and racing.

White Sail Coaching Clinic

Our annual coaches' clinic will take place from June 26-30. The Fundamentals are being taught on the weekend June 26/27 at the Sport for Life Centre and the technical part will take place June 28-30 at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre at Fort Whyte Alive. If you haven't registered yet please do so by sending an email to sailing@sportmanitoba.ca

Windsurfing Coaching Clinic

Sail Manitoba is hosting a coaching clinic to certify windsurfing coaches. The fundamental course will be held on the weekend June 26/27 at the Sport for Life Centre in Winnipeg and the technical part from June 19/20 at the Gimli YC. To register or for more information call the office at 925-5647

Coaches - Are You Insured?

Have you paid your annual coaches' fee of $160 directly to the CYA to be certified and insured for the upcoming season? You can log in online at https://members.sailing.ca/index.php?action=_login.show_member_login

Respect in Sport

A friendly reminder that you need to take the Respect in Sport online Certification at www.sportmanitoba.ca . Otherwise you will not be certified to coach or to teach sailing .

 

OFFICIALS

Assistant Race Officer Course

Do you want to experience the thrill of racing on the water instead of being stuck on shore? Take the Assistant Race Officer Course on June 22 and June 24 from 7:00pm-9:00pm at the Sport for Life Centre or on Friday, July 9 from 5:00pm - 9:00pm at the RLWYC.  The fee is $50 plus GST and includes the booklet 'Join the Race Committee'

Spring Training at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre

A reminder that our spring training is being held Mondays and Wednesdays in 420s and Prams until June 30 at the WSC. This program is open to everyone.

Wascana Short Course Champs

Five Laser sailors attended the first regatta of the year in Regina . The 4 th annual Wascana Short Course Championships w as sailed on May 22 in rain and wind conditions  up to  25 knots. Congrats to winner Tanja Smutny

Regina Sailing Club Icebreaker Regatta

The Ice Breaker Regatta took place right after on the long weekend at Last Mountain Lake . Great regatta, nice volunteers, conditions not always perfect with too much wind on Sunday and too little wind on Monday. Congrats to the winners Sanders Pattern in the Laser Radial and Emma Williams in the Laser 4.7

Buffalo Cup at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre

Our annual Buffalo Cup at the WSC at Fort Whyte Alive took place on June 3rd. 18 participants competed in four 420s, one JY, one Laser 2, one 2.4mR, one Martin 16 and 4 Prams. This regatta was also the Winnipeg Regional Championship. The winners were Harrison Jones in the Pram Class and Brigitte Smutny in the Open Class

Our mobile sailing school is booked solid from June 25-September 3 at various locations around the province.

The membership fees for the 2010 season have to be submitted before the season starts. Please send a cheque to our office and we will send out the CYA certificate and the CYA membership cards. If you have a question please call us at 925-5647

Have your Regatta Sanctioned by the MSA

In order to be covered by the Sport Manitoba liability insurance for your regatta, send an email to sailing@sportmanitoba.ca and apply for approval. The Sanctioning Policy can be found at http://www.sailmanitoba.com/about/policies.htm
