RACING NEWS

Wascana Short Course Champs

Three Laser and three Radial sailors attended the first regatta of the year in Regina . The 3rd annual Wascana Short Course Championships were sailed on May 17, with sunny weather and wind conditions of 25 knots!!. More at http://www.sailmanitoba.com/newsletter/wascana_short.doc

Regina Sailing ClubIcebreaker Regatta

The Ice Breaker Regatta took place right after the Wascana event on May 18 and 19 at Last Mountain Lake . Great regatta, nice volunteers, perfect conditions and Craven is always worth the drive. Results at http://www.sailmanitoba.com/newsletter/rsc_spring08.xls.

 

UPCOMING EVENTS

Buffalo Cup at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre

Our annual Buffalo Cup at the WSC at Fort Whyte Alive will take place June 4 at 5:30pm. This regatta is open to anyone.  We will have four 420s, 2 Martin 16s and 6 Optis available.  Please register with Brigitte at 925-5647

Team Spring Training at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre

A reminder that we will have six more sessions of our spring training in 420s at the WSC. The program is pretty booked so please make sure to phone Brigitte before every practice to secure your spot.

Team Scavenger Hunt

The Scavenger Hunt at the Assiniboine Park , organized by Athlete Rep. Dylan,  will take place on Saturday, June 7

Team Weekend Training at the Gimli YC and the Falcon YC

Our next training  session  will be on June 7/8 at the Gimli YC.  Sunday night we will pack the trailer and move on to Falcon YC for a practice on June 14 and the Falcon Cup on June 15 and for the Falcon open regatta on June 21/22.

Waves and CYA Sail West

The Manitoba Sailing Team will be leaving for Waves in Vancouver on June 25. Don't miss the early registration deadline June 13 for CYA Sail West.  For more info on logistics go to http://www.sailmanitoba.com/newsletter/08_log_van_vic.doc. Looking for drivers!! We are in need of two people who can drive the team van with the 14 boat trailer out to Vancouver on June 22 and return from Victoria on July 6. If you are interested or know of somebody who is, please contact the MSA office.

Sailing Team Fees

If you haven't paid your team membership fees yet please do so ASAP. A new MSA dry bag is included in the team membership fees and will be handed out at the Falcon Cup on June 14/15.

Yacht Clubs - Don't Forget to have your Regatta Sanctioned

In order to be covered by the Sport Manitoba liability insurance for your regatta send an email to sailing@sportmanitoba.ca and apply for approval. The Sanctioning Policy can be found at www.sailmanitoba.com under about us/policies.

Laser District 4 Champs

Attention Laser sailors! The District 4 Championships will be held at RLWYC on July 26/27.

Mobile Sailing School

Check out the schedule for our mobile sailing school on our website www.sailmanitoba.com under the sailing lesson link. The school is booked from June 20-August 22 at various locations around the province.

Bronze IV Course at Victoria Beach YC

The Sailing School at VBYC is going to run an all day Bronze Camp from August 4-8.  If you are interested contact Pat Dorval at 478-2594 in the city till June 30 or Evelyn Russell at the Beach at 756-6525 after July 1st.

Coaches and Instructor - Are You Insured?

Have you paid your annual instructor fee of $150 directly at the CYA to be certified and insured for the upcoming season? You can log in online at https://members.sailing.ca/index.php?action=_login.show_member_login
A friendly reminder that you also need to take the Respect in Sport online Certification at www.sportmanitoba.ca otherwise you will not be certified to coach or to teach sailing.

Summer Cruising Courses

If you would like us to announce any dates for regattas or other events for your club in this newsletter please send an email to sailing@sportmanitoba.ca.

MSA Membership ($10)

The MSA office will send the new Training Participation Membership Card to every Learn to Sail student. Yacht Clubs, please submit the names, addresses and e-mail addresses of your students to the MSA office.  The students will then receive the monthly E-Newsletter and the semi-annual Porthole Magazine.

CYA and MSA Membership ($20)

Attention Club Commodores:
The membership fees for the 2008 season have to be submitted before the season starts. Please send a cheque to the MSA office and we will send out the CYA certificate and the CYA membership cards. If you have a question please call the MSA office at 925-5647.
