A new sailor for Manitoba
On Sunday, January 27 Coach Craig Baker and his wife Darcy welcomed baby Cole.
He was born at 10:14pm weighing in at 9lb and 22 inches long. W e extend our
congratulations to Craig and Darcy and an invite to Cole to all of our sailing
events.
RACING NEWS
Olympic Qualifier
MSA sailor Tanja Smutny was awarded a spot for the Radial Worlds
from March 15-20, 2008 at Takapuna Beach in New Zealand . The Worlds
are also the qualifier for the 2008 Olympics Games in Beijing ,
China.
29er Spring Camp in Montreal
The annual 29er spring camp in Montreal will take place from
May 8-11. The cost is $400 per athlete, this includes breakfast,
dinner and a guest speaker on Thursday and Friday night as well
as four full days of coaching with video sessions and daily fitness. More

The Canadian Olympic Committee starts a new show on CBC tonight
every Monday called 'Countdown to Beijing '. It airs at 7:30 p.m.

COC plan to launch TV Channels
The Canadian Olympic Committee unveiled its plans Wednesday for its own English
and French-language digital TV channels that will focus solely on broadcasting

Canada Summer Games 2013
The 2.mR was selected for an event for an athlete with a disability for the
Canada Summer Games in 2013. The 2.4mR is a one-person keelboat and
it is a miniaturized version of the old America's
Cup boats on a 1:5 scale. The 2.4mR has been a Paralympics class

Children's' Fitness Tax Credit
Commencing in 2007 a tax credit is available for eligible amounts of up to $500
per child for fees paid to register a child in an eligible program of physical
activity. Upon your request, MSA can issue a receipt for you.
LEARN TO CRUISE
Celestial Navigation Course
Just a reminder that we will hold the Celestial Navigation Course on Wednesday
February 28th until April 17th from 7:00pm - 10:00pm at Sport Manitoba. Course
Conductor will be Davis Daycock. The price for this course is $270 plus taxes.
Radio Operators Certificate (Marine band frequency)
A VHF course will be held in Brandon on Saturday, March 8 from 9:00am - 3:00pm
at the music studio, 940 Rosser Ave. The fee is $70 and course conductor will

Our Mobile Sailing School with head instructor Tyler Green will be on the road

MSA implements New Sailing Program for Kids
The MSA will implement the new Wet Feet program tailored to kids aged 3-7. The
program includes a manual for each the WET FEET, Optimist I and Optimist II
program. We will offer a one day course on a weekend in June and at the instructor
clinic in June to facilitate training for this new program. More information
in the next newsletter.

CYA rolls out new Coaches and Instructor Certification Program
If you want to get certified as a Coach or Instructor or if you want to become
a Program Manager at a Yacht Club then sign up for our annual Learn to Sail
Coach clinic which will be held from June 23-27 at the Zig Zag Yacht Club. For

CYA Instructor and Coaches Certification
The CYA is proud to announce that the online registration system is now up and
running for the 2008 season. You can now log-in to the CYA Member's Area at http://members.sailing.ca to
check on the status of your personal information, CYA certifications and pre-requisites.
If all of your certifications are up to date and you have taken your Respect
in Sport online course, you will be able to register and securely pay instructor

Great Bingo News
Effective April 1, 2008 volunteer groups will only be required to send seven volunteers
per bingo session; a decrease from the current requirement of ten volunteers.
In addition, volunteer groups will no longer be required to sell break open
tickets, just bingo paper. This change has directly contributed to the
reduction in the required number of volunteers.
