About the Optimist
dinghy:
The Optimist dinghy is a single-sail, single-handed boat
affectionately known as the Opti by sailors everywhere.
It is the largest class of competitive sailboats in the
world and sailed by more than 150,000 young people in 110
countries. The Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) has designated
the Opti as a development class for the sport. Many of the
top sailors in the world today began sailing in the Optimist,
and at the Athens Olympic Games more than 70% of medalists
learned the basics of the sport sailing Optimists as children.
