A Club Race Officer (CRO), the Level II in Race
Management, is capable of managing the ‘on-the-water'
operations of regattas at the club and provincial levels.
The three prerequisites to attain the CRO certification
are: a minimum two year service as an Assistant Race
Officer, successful completion of the CYA Club Race Officer
Management clinic given by a certified CYA Course Conductor
and evidence of mark laying capability. The Club Race
Officer course includes topics covering timing, recording,
flag operation, sound signaller, line judge, practical
exercises plus mark set management, course and start
line setting and overall Race Officer responsibilities
during a race. There is a thought provoking
questionnaire to complete the course.
