Dinghy and
catamaran sailors and keel boaters are welcome at Pelican
Yacht Club, located on the southwest shore of Pelican
Lake near Ninette. Sailing has undergone a resurgence
at Pelican, thanks to the Western Canada Summer Games
sailing events held there in 1997.
Pelican offers sailing lessons for young people, and
adult sailing lessons when needed. There are keelboat
races on the weekends, and the club hopes to host qualifying
dinghy races for various Canadian events. There's quite
a variety of boats at Pelican, from small keelboats
to
Hobie Cats, Lasers and Sunfish.
The clubhouse offers the use of a kitchen and barbecue,
plus showers and washrooms, plus dock space for around
20 boats. The docks are sheltered behind a large breakwater,
near a marina which has boat launching facilities, plus
a public beach and camping area.
The kitchen is the social centre of the club, with
weekend pot-luck barbecues, and fun and food on tap
after racing.
