| Located east of
Kenora, Ontario, at Northern Harbour, Northern Yacht club
offers keel boaters the chance to race and cruise together
on scenic Lake of the Woods.
Northern offers lessons in both dinghies and private
instruction on keelboats. Their racing series is quite
extensive, offering a combination of round-the-buoy
races and pursuit-style keelboat racing.
Their series of group cruises is very attractive, so
much that power boaters are joining in. Organized cruising
set for this summer includes the summer solstice cruise
in mid-June, a Canada Day cruise, a Which Bay cruise
in mid-July, the Queen Island treasure hunt cruise in
mid-August and the Labour Day long-weekend cruise.
The yacht club has access to meeting space at Northern
Harbour, and all boaters who dock there can use the
marina's showers and washroom facilities. Gas and oil
sales, pump-outs, boat launching and winter storage
are also available.
The club hosts an ice breaker social in May, followed
by the Spring Sea Feaver cup races in June and September,
plus spring and fall dinners. Many club members race
in the Lake of the Woods International Sailing Association
(LOWISA) regatta in August.
